Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA™)

Computer certification programs are setting the standards for the information technology (IT) industry worldwide. Although most careers in the IT and communications fields are lucrative and lead to rapid advancement, you can move ahead even more rapidly if you have been certified. In fact, you often can earn a salary increase of 20% or more once you become certified. Nowadays, having a degree in computer science just isn't enough. Companies are demanding that their IT professionals be certified as a way to measure their skills as well as to guarantee that they can perform their jobs successfully. In short, certification will help a computer professional get a good job and stay competitive in what is now a highly demanding IT environment.

This training would be beneficial for individuals looking for IT job positions such as: Network Administrator, Windows Administrator, Senior Network Engineer, Windows System Engineer, Linux Administrator, IT Manager, Unix Administrator, Network Security Specialist, Senior Security Engineer, Information Security Manager or a Chief Security Officer.

Exam 640-822 (ICND1) - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1

The Cisco CCENT™ (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification validates the skills required for entry-level network support positions. Candidates will learn the skills to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. CCENT certification is the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections.

This course provides students with the knowledge to:

  • Describe the purpose and functions of various network devices
  • Select the components required to meet a given network specification
  • Use the OSI and TCP/IP models and their associated protocols to explain how data flows in a network
  • Describe common networking applications including web applications
  • Describe the purpose and basic operation of the protocols in the OSI and TCP models
  • Describe the impact of applications (Voice Over IP and Video Over IP) on a network
  • Interpret network diagrams
  • Determine the path between two hosts across a network
  • Describe the components required for network and Internet communications
  • Identify and correct common network problems at layers 1, 2, 3 and 7 using a layered model approach
  • Differentiate between LAN/WAN operation and features

Exam 640-816 (ICND2) - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2

This course validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. This new curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. This new curriculum also includes (but is not limited to) the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), Ethernet, Access Control Lists (ACLs)

This course provides students with the knowledge to:

  • Describe enhanced switching technologies (including: VTP, RSTP, VLAN, PVSTP, 802.1q)
  • Describe how VLANs create logically separate networks and the need for routing between them
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot VLANs
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot trunking on Cisco switches
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot interVLAN routing
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot VTP
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot RSTP operation
  • Interpret the output of various show and debug commands to verify the operational status of a Cisco switched network
  • Implement basic switch security (including: port security, unassigned ports, trunk access, etc.)

Exam 640-802: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Composite Exam

The 640-802 Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is the composite exam associated with the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. Candidates can prepare for this exam by taking the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1) v1.0 and the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 (ICND2) v1.0 courses. This exam tests a candidate's knowledge and skills required to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network. The topics include connecting to a WAN; implementing network security; network types; network media; routing and switching fundamentals; the TCP/IP and OSI models; IP addressing; WAN technologies; operating and configuring IOS devices; extending switched networks with VLANs; determining IP routes; managing IP traffic with access lists; establishing point-to-point connections; and establishing Frame Relay connections.

This course provides students with the knowledge to:

  • Describe how a network works
  • Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and interswitch communications
  • Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP Services to meet network requirements in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network
  • Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing on Cisco devices
  • Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN
  • Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats
  • Implement, verify, and troubleshoot NAT and ACLs in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network
  • Implement and verify WAN links
